Artist / Phoenix
Track / Foreground
Remix / Grizzly Bear

I love this. Never big on conventionality, Phoenix give us their  “aleatory and combinatory remix” of ‘Foreground’, which is in fact, an interactive youtube experience that you control. The French heartthrobs are touring Aus early next year as part of the Good Vibrations Festival and you can win tickets here.

The first release to be lifted from Ghostface Killah’s forthcoming long player The Apollo Kids, Together Baby, is archetypally compelling, and amidst lyrics of skateboards and Tony Romo reference, packs a bunch that’d floor Tinie Tempah, Tinchy Stryder, et. al in a single left hook.

Artist / The Shins
Track / Sleeping Lessons
Remix/ RAC

Sleeping Lessons

The Remix Artist Collective (RAC) are a group of creatives providing re-interpretations of tracks to artists/labels, pushing a style that moves beyond your typical “club mix” stereotype (in their words).  Here they remix one of my favourite Shins tracks. Check out some others here.

Artist / Gorillaz
Track / Doncamatic
Remix/ Joker

Doncamatic

Damon Albarn has released roughly one album a year for the last 17 years, and is still managing to deliver gold. This is an awesome remix of the latest Gorillaz track ‘Doncamatic’ by 20-year-old dubstep/grime producer who’s being hailed as somewhat of a “prodigy” in the UK. We’ll see.

Artist / Burial
Track / Archangel
Remix/ Phaseone

Archangel (Phaseone rmx)

St. Louis’ Phaseone remixed this stunning Burial track for his impressive 2009 album White Collar Crime, which features reworkings of artists like Radiohead, Panda Bear, Raekwon and Bon Iver. I’ve only just discovered this track thanks to this killer mixtape.
