Lord Knows Best

Vice speculate that Alex Zhung Hai actually started Dirty Beaches as a “pre-emptive attack on bird-decorating oil giants BP”. Whatever the reason, I dig his 60′s inspired lovelorn sound and am eagerly anticipating his debut full-length album titled Badlands. Due out March 29.

How Sweet It Is To Be [...]

Other than Hot Chip’s epic cover of ‘Sexual Healing’, this is my most favourite alternative version of a Marvin Gaye classic. With record sales close to 1 millon copies, How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You) peaked at #3 on Billboard’s R&B Singles chart in 1965,  making it Gaye’s most successful single at that point.

Flying Overseas

Originating from his I Want You mixtape which I posted about previously, this updated version of ‘Flying Overseas’ features Solange Knowles and Dev Hynes (Lightspeed Champion) and is being released as part of the Green Label Sound project. The video is definitely worth checking out.

Baby Be Mine

This is actually a cover of Michael Jackson’s ‘Baby Be Mine’, so technically it should be in the ‘Covered’ section, but I love it too much not to feature it this week. If you haven’t heard much about Danish duo Quadron, check out their self titled debut here and watch the video for this track here.

Highlife

Featured on the BBC and praised by Diplo, Paul White is a promising UK artist & producer currently making waves with his unique style of experimental hip-hop. ‘Highlife’ is an older track from his 2009 release, but you can  get more of his latest material here.
