Alias‘ Brendon Whitney is a founding member of the prolific independent hip-hop label Anticon, a collective notorious for fusing genres and pioneering new sounds from avant-garde hip-hop to post-indie-rock to electronic… blah blah it’s really good, you should listen.

This track is the tall poppy of playlists; so beautiful it makes the rest of the songs on your mix sound like background noise. Having existed in lo-fi Youtube form for a while now thanks to a few live concert performances, the recorded version is better than expected. Beirut’s new album, The Rip Tide, is out August 30th.

We’re sure you’ve heard about the new Beastie Boys album Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 2 by now, due to drop on May 3. We’re sure you’ve also heard about their short film Fight for Your Right Revisited, loosely-based on the music video for the classic track ‘Fight for Your Right’. Featuring cameos by everyone in the whole world, it speaks for itself. Enjoy.

Setting aside Radiohead and OFWGKTA (anyone not talking about their Fallon performance?) as the most talked-about artists this week, TV on the Radio are back from hiatus with this soulful new track off forthcoming album Nine Types of Light. Considering a number of TVOTR artists produced acclaimed solo work in 2010 (David Sitek, Kyp Malone and Tunde Adebimpe), one can only expect great things.

We Have Everything

This track is a standout from Young Galaxy‘s upcoming Shapeshifting LP out Feb 8. These Canadians were nominated for a Polaris Prize in 2009 but I’ve only just started hearing about them so I’m late to the party on this one. The film clip, reminiscent of Radiohead’s classic Paranoid Android clip, is definitely worthy of your time.
