Track / Will Do

Will Do

Setting aside Radiohead and OFWGKTA (anyone not talking about their Fallon performance?) as the most talked-about artists this week,  TV on the Radio are back from hiatus with this soulful new track off forthcoming album Nine Types of Light. Considering a number of TVOTR artists produced acclaimed solo work in 2010 (David Sitek, Kyp Malone and Tunde Adebimpe), one can only expect great things.

Artist / Jamie XX+Yasmin
Track / Touch Me
Cover / Rui Da Silva

Touch Me

This might very well be my favourite cover since Dr. Dog took on ‘Heart It Races’. Jamie XX and Yasmin first performed a live cover / re-edit /remix of Rui Da Silva’s classic track ‘Touch Me’ during their infamous Boiler Room set a few weeks back, and later lay down this studio version exclusively for BBC6. Who can say no to steel drums?

Track / Jesus Wants Me ..
Album / Dying For It

Jesus Wants Me [...]

It’s not a typo. This track was originally released as ‘Jesus Wants Me For A Sunbeam‘ on the Dying For It EP, then later re-released as the better-known ‘Jesus Doesn’t Want Me For A Sunbeam” on The Way Of The Vaselines. As beautiful and important as Kurt’s famous MTV Unplugged performance was, I think this version is even more epic.

Track / Cub
Remix / Keep Shelly In [..]

Cub (KSIA Remix)

According to Hype Machine, Keep Shelly In Athens was the 6th most blogged about band on the interweb last week. Combine that with the star power of up-coming electronic duo Solar Bears (not to be confused with the professional Floridian ice hockey team) and you’ve got yourself an addictive blend of downtempo Balearic beats and haunting vocals. Highly recommended.

Artist Jamie Woon
Track / Lady Luck
Album / Mirrorwriting

Lady Luck

As difficult as it was to follow on from the greatness of Burial-co-produced single ‘Night Air’, post-dubstep mastermind Jamie Woon has delivered another outstanding track in ‘Lady Luck’. Combining soul with the popular minimal bass trend emerging from the UK right now, Woon’s vocals are ridiculous. Mirrorwriting out April 4 on Polydor Records.
