el guincho

Artist / El Guincho
Track / Bombay
Album/ Pop Negro

Bombay

A fitting addition to your next weekend playlist, the new track from Spanish artist El Guincho is getting some heat at the moment. ‘Bombay’ is taken from his upcoming album Pop Negro which is slated for a release later this year. Makes me want to learn how to play the steel drum.

Held The Hand

Dear Stone’s Throw Records,
Do you remember the time I ordered 3 copies of Mayer Hawthorne’s ‘Just Ain’t Gonna Work Out’ on  heart-shaped vinyl? Do you remember that is got “lost in transit”. Well, I’m still really sad about it. Anyway, this Mayer Hawthorne cover of Held The Hand is lovely. Just saying.

Supertramp - breakfast in america

Artist / Supertramp
Track / The Long Way Home
Album / Breakfast In America

Take The Long Way Home

Tame Impala referred to their love of late 70′s progressive rock band Supertramp in a recent interview and it reminded me of how great this song is, taken from from their most prominent album Breakfast in America. The intro to this builds up slowly so be patient for the heavy piano notes to kick in.

local natives

Artist / Local Natives
Track / Eyes Wide
Remix / Fool’s Gold

Eyes Wide

Don’t let the first few seconds fool you, it gets better.  Admittedly I always felt Local Natives were over-hyped, but if you listen closely their music speaks for itself. LA favourite’s Fool’s Gold, add their uplifting afro-beat style to this great remix, while rapper Aristotle Pop A Bottle drops his smooth southern verse.

The Bees - Silver Line

Artist / The Bees
Track / Silver Line
Album/ Every Step’s A Yes

Silver Line

I’m a fan of The Bees second album Free The Bees (you’ll recognise ‘Pay The Chicken Back’) and have been awaiting new material for a while now. Described by the band as a “little summer breeze of a taster“, this sunny indie-pop tune edges into Simon & Garfunkel territory (which I’m always a sucker for). Love it.
